NES, in collaboration with Nunn Construction, worked with the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) to design and construct a state-of-the-art ADA-compliant playground (complete in August 2024). Initiated by students, the project focused on accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring features such as Braille wayfinding signage, accessible handrails, cane and backpack hooks, sensory equipment, and strategic pathways. NES worked closely with the school’s Design Committee to select every element, from colors to ground surfaces, ensuring the playground supported all students’ needs. Through thoughtful engagement with the school, NES successfully produced construction documents that captured every element necessary to ensure a safe but also fun, independent play experience. This fully customized space provides an inclusive, engaging environment that will benefit CSDB students for years to come.
