Ring the Peak Trail one step closer to finish
Organizers are taking a big step towards completing a popular local trail.
The much anticipated project is made up of a collection of trails and back country roads and thanks to a $100,000 dollar grant from Great Outdoors Colorado Ring the Peak is one step closer to completion.
The project has been underway since 1999 and about 80 percent is finished. The missing piece? An 8 mile trail gap. After years of discussion they’ve started the master plan on this project.
Organizers say the finished product will also serve as a popular tourist attraction.
“They’ll camp, some of them will use bicycles, some of them will use horses, but how cool to do a trail loop around Pikes Peak America’s Mountain,” said Executive Director of The Colorado Springs Trails and Open Space Coalition Susan Davies.
Trails and Open Spaces has two years to spend the grant money and complete their master plan. When it’s done they’ll start construction. They’re hoping to have it completed by 2020.
